Fix appearance of table title
The weakness of table titles
A solution to the problem
The weakness of table titles
Especially when placing centered tables the following weakness of FrameMaker becomes obvious: the table title is wider than the table itself. Only under rare surcumstances the table title is as wide as the table itself. I can not define, which circumstances these are – but I have observed it. The following picture demonstrates the effect on a centered table:
If the table is left adjusted, the effect need not to be that annoying. It even may not be recognised at all if all tables are as wide as the surrounding text frame or if no ruling is used in the table.
A solution to the problem
To make the heading as wide as the table itself, a proven method is to add an anchored frame to the title to limit the space in the title area:
This anchored frame is of type “Run into Paragraph”:
Adjust the width of the anchored frame with the mouse. If your table is left adjusted a numeric definition of the frame width may work also.
The alignment of the anchored frame may be “side farther from binding” rather than “right” to adapt automatically to the location of the table. You may need some experimenting for your particular situation.
